Three years ago, I spent my birthday somewhere quiet.
Baker Creek was tucked away in the mountains, secluded, peaceful, and far enough from everything that you naturally slow down.
The drive in during winter takes a little more care since the road isn’t fully plowed, but maybe that’s part of what makes getting there feel like an escape.
A warm cabin. Snow outside. Ice skating. Long conversations.
And the kind of silence you don’t feel the need to fill.
I remember talking about staying in the moment, taking a step back, and how sometimes we need to unplug,not because we’re tired of life, but because we need to reconnect with it.
There was something special about spending a birthday that way.
No big plans. No noise.
Just being somewhere beautiful, with someone you love, and having enough space to simply breathe.
Some places you visit.
Some places remind you to slow down.
