A Riverside Picnic for Tofu’s First Birthday

This past weekend we celebrated something extra special… Tofu’s very first birthday!

It’s hard to believe our playful little tortie is already one. We wanted the day to feel memorable and unique, so we planned a simple celebration outdoors by the riverside.

We packed a picnic basket with muffins, drinks, and a few colorful streamers to set the mood. To make it more personal, we brought along painting kits with the idea of creating portraits of both Tofu and Nacho. It felt like the perfect way to capture their personalities in a creative and lasting way.

The riverside setting was beautiful. The soft sound of water flowing by the creek made everything feel peaceful, even though the mosquitoes were definitely not on our guest list. While we were setting up, a family with young kids played nearby. They noticed the birthday touches and came over to wish Tofu a happy birthday. It was such a sweet, unexpected moment that made the day feel even more special.

As always, my babies brought their own personalities into the celebration. Nacho stayed close to the picnic mat, quiet and cautious, preferring the safety of his little spot. Tofu, on the other hand, was full of energy, wandering around, sniffing the grass, and curiously exploring everything in sight. We couldn’t resist doing a mini photoshoot, capturing their antics and the small details of the day.

It wasn’t perfect. Those mosquito bites were a reminder of real life. But it was such a beautiful way to celebrate. Sitting in nature, painting, listening to the creek, and simply being present with Tofu and Nacho made it a birthday to remember.

As the day came to a close, we packed up our picnic and drove home with the windows down, letting the cool air drift in. The sky was painted in soft shades of gold and orange, the same warm colors that remind me of Tofu’s coat. It felt like the perfect ending to her special day, almost as if nature itself was celebrating with us.

Happy first birthday, Tofu! 💖 You are truly our little sunset. 🌅
