5 Tips for A Working Student from a Working Student

1.Know your priorities. You must be enrolled and working at the same time for a reason and most of the reason for most of us is you might want to save money while earning your chosen degree. Hooray for learning to balance and school! You deserve a pat on the back because not everybody can do that. Now that you finally learn how to juggle your work and school life, you have to learn how to set your priorities straight. This is the key for everything. You cannot successfully manage your time if you don’t know what to prioritize. You don’t have to multitask and as much as possible you have to avoid it. Why? First is consumes your time. Yes we might see it as saving time but actually you are not really saving your time. You might feel good in accomplishing 2 or more things at the same time BUT did you do well on both? Worst thing that’ll probably happen is you’ll mess up on both. You tried to prioritize both of them now you are losing on both. There is a reason why it is called “prioritize”. You cannot just simply prioritize two things at the same time. Choosing something before anything else doesn’t mean you need to neglect the latter. You just need to focus on your priority while at the same time trying to do well on the other. In that way, you’ll maximize your potential on your priority while you do your way on the top. Secondly, it consumes so much energy. It stresses you out! You need to conserve energy for you to do well on the other things you need to get done.

2.Balance your time. The key word is obviously “balance”. You need it in every aspect of your life. Just like what happens inside our body (anatomically and physiologically speaking), homeostasis is needed for it to function well. Your body is able to adapt and cope in every situation that happens in your surrounding. It is because of homeostasis.

Balancing your time makes it easier for you to prioritize, it makes your life easier in planning your day to day schedule.

Plan ahead of time. It is very helpful for you to keep a calendar or a planner that can track your time and activities. In this way, You are not only helping yourself but you are also helping others who are engaged with you and your activities for them to plan their own schedule to. There are tons of application out there if you are a techy person. I personally recommend jorte. It is a very responsive cute calendar slash planner app that you can download on both itunes and playstore. You could also use a regular mini calendar that you can bring with you everyday.

3.Focus on your goal. This aids you in achieving your ultimate mission whatever that may be. Use it as an inspiration that fuels you up. Always remind yourself why are you doing this  everytime you wake up in the morning. Why are you here? Juggling work and school must be stressing and time consuming but as long as you keep your eye on the goal, nothing can ever stop you.

4.Health is wealth. Just like what i have said, this thing that you are working in process is very stressful and energy consuming. That’s why you have to have that energy in order for you to make it thru the day. Eat your breakfast, a big and real breakfast. You need to meet the average calorie for a person for you to have enough energy. I recommend fruits as snack!  Sleep well. It helps you to repair those brain cells. As you know, sleep deficiency is linked to various kinds of diseases such as heart and kidney diseases, diabetes and stroke. And also, don’t forget those multivitamins especially vitamin c! They’re really helpful!

5. Take a break once a while. You are not a robot! Taking a break is essential to higher productivity, energy, concentration, efficiency, creativity, and just about every other good thing that you need to survive. You can take naps for 15 minutes. Stretch. Move your body. Shift your attention. You  can do almost anything but work!
